Seminar Curriculum
(Suitable for both beginning and advanced practitioners)

Morning:
Wuji Meditation: Taoist meditation cultivates stillness through placing the intent on the energetic center of the body (the middle dantian), in which the elixer of life of Taoist internal alchemy is formed. We will practice standing meditation, which also strengthens the bones and cultivates central equilibrium as well as heavy and light energies.

Hunyuan Qigong: Movement comes from stillness, and then returns: Hunyuan Gong emphasizes gathering, circulating, and storing qi for healing, vitality, and spiritual clarity.

Chansi Qigong: Opening and connecting the eighteen joints of the body, and training spiraling energy, Chansi (or silk-reeling) Gong develops the internal skills required for practicing the Hunyuan Taiji form.

Hunyuan Taiji Beginning 24-Form: Emphasizing movement from stillness and manifesting the "gong" or skill cultivated during Qigong practice, Hunyuan Taiji is as beautiful to watch as it is comfortable and enjoyable to practice.

Afternoon:
Eight Energies Exercises: Training the four cardinal and four combined energetic expressions that comprise Taijiquan deepens our practice and prepares us for two person exercises.

Body Conditiong: Gentle two person exercises that develop the upright, springy and heavy energies, while promoting qi circulation through stimulating various acupuncture points on the body.

Push Hands: Two person exercises designed to develop listening, sticking, following, heavy and light energy, as well as to develop martial techniques that are embedded in the forms. As Master Chen Xiang says, push-hands is the "heart" of Taijiquan practice, and is where internal skill can be displayed and further developed. We will practice "scholarly" push-hands, in which everyone is gently encouraged to improve their skill, and nobody is forcefully challenged.
